A larger than life copper sculpture of CJ Dennis stands outside the Biles Art Gallery as a memorial to the memory of the renowned poet and balladeer, whose boyhood home was Laura. The bust of CJ Dennis is located in Hughes Street at the Civic Centre. In 1915 CJ Dennis published The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke which is probably the highest selling collection of poetry in the nation's history.
Built in 1875 as a bakers and butchers shop with a house attached. The premises now contain an underground bakehouse that is restored but not functional, which is unique.
