Beltana Station P/LBeltana
Beltana Station (incorporating Puttapa Station) covers nearly 1/2 a million acres and is a fully working sheep and cattle station. Beltana station was first surveyed in 1854 and has played a part in South Australias early history. Sir Thomas Elder and Robert Barr Smith both owned Beltana station and through this association the Beltana Pastarol company was founded. Beltana was a part of this company up until 1983. Sir Thomas Elder imported camels some of the first in S.A and Beltana station became one of the most successful breeding depots in Australia. Experditions were started from Beltana in the early days. One of the most successful was Ernest Giles 1875 experdition to W.A and back. Visitors are welcome to explore the history of the station. There are 3 4wd tracks through the station taking is such sights as Lake Torrens, Mt Deception, Puttapa Springs, Old Beltana town and much more. Self drive or tag-a-long (by appointment). Beltana stations location means most places in the northern Flinders are accessable for day trips such as Wilpena Pound, Blinman, Parachilna, Leigh Creek and Historic Beltana. 11 shearers quarters 1860 built rooms accommodate well plus there is a 3 bedroom cottage available sleeping 8-10 comfortably. Stone Hut Cottages are nestled on three and a half acres of spectacular rural scenery at Stone Hut, two and a half hours leisurely drive north of Adelaide through Clare. Accommodation is a country cottage with stylish contemporary decor, kitchenette, ensuite, private verandah, stunning views. Gum Creek Station's Shearer's Quarters are situated on a working sheep station 480 kilometres north of Adelaide, in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. Gum Creek Station joins the Flinders Ranges National Park and is within easy reach of many local attractions, including the magnificent Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges and sections of the Heysen Trail, which traverses the property. The area provides an excellent example of the amazing range of landform, vegetation and colour that the Flinders Ranges can provide. The Quarters are nestled against the River Red Gum lined Wockerawirra Creek at the station homestead. Recently upgraded for group or family accommodation, the building overlooks the rocky creek bed and incorporates a large sheltered deck, lawn and barbecue area which provide a great outdoor living environment in the mild spring and autumn weather. Sleeping is mainly twin share with seven bedrooms opening out onto a verandah which circles the building. There are five rooms each with two single beds and two rooms each with two double bunks providing total sleeping capacity of 18. Linen is available on request. Power for the building is a 24 hours 240 volt service, which is provided by the station's new solar power system. For large groups, some additional sleeping accommodation is available in the adjacent and recently constructed woolshed. Hosts Bill and Jane provide all visitors with any help they need in planning their activities in the local area, including advice about bush walks, four wheel drive vehicle tracks and scenic areas.Loc:Blinman, Reg:Flinders Ranges and Outback
